With his distinct creative imprint on global brands including Theory, Helmut Lang, Club Monaco, J.Crew and Urban Outfitters, James Mills now extends his visual merchandising, store experience and interior design expertise into a comprehensive consulting service.

Conveying a wide range of aesthetics rooted in his fine arts background, deep appreciation of classic and contemporary design trends, and extensive international travels throughout Europe and Asia, he imbues each project with a spirit and style juxtaposing traditional flourishes with modern, eclectic touches like contemporary art, cutting-edge lighting, and the unpredictable, whimsical use of materials.

With two decades' experience in store design and a creative imagination that has elevated some of the top names in global retail, James is now accepting private commissions.

Store Concept and Design

Bringing his design expertise and branding knowledge from stints with  global brands, James helps re-conceptualize the look and feel of stores and overall image. He takes a brand's aesthetic to the next level — from singular flagship locations to multiple branches worldwide ; able to take from concept, to execution and completion.

Brand Development

Building on his experience of creative concepting for Club Monaco among other brands, James helps companies in large markets connect with consumers through bold and successful initiatives like pop-up collaborations (Club Monaco's presence at the Browns and Lane Crawford department stores in London and Hong Kong, respectively), and creative partnerships, and marketing initiatives.

Visual Merchandising

Working within the idea of "total concept", James implements and executes design strategies for all aspects of the retail experience, from store windows, ambience (music, scents, lighting), fixture design/sourcing, product packaging, marketing, and seasonal or special projects.
